Townstead AI helps local businesses, charities and community organisations use AI with confidence. We provide practical tools, training and safeguards so small organisations can adopt AI without putting their data, customers or reputation at risk.

We are starting in Broxbourne Borough, Hertfordshire, working directly with local businesses, charities and community organisations before expanding across England. Our work is funded in part by the Google Data Center Community AI Fellowship, Mediatown Community CIC and Hertstown Media.

## The Problem We Solve

Most local teams don't have a technology department, a compliance team or an AI policy. But their people are already using AI — pasting customer emails into ChatGPT, uploading spreadsheets with personal information, using AI tools without knowing what happens to the data. Townstead gives them the simple rules and safeguards they need.

## What We Do

- **Free AI Readiness Scorecard** — A free 3-minute diagnostic that identifies up to three automation opportunities, assesses AI Velocity and AI Safety, estimates wasted hours and monthly operational cost, and provides a practical 30-day plan.
- **AI Implementation Clinics** — Free half-day hands-on sessions in Broxbourne Borough. Attendees bring their actual business problem and leave with safe AI workflows running and a clearer understanding of what should and shouldn't go into AI tools.
- **UK AI Policy Generator** — Generates a simple 1-page Responsible AI Policy written in plain English, aligned with UK GDPR. (Coming soon.)
- **High-Street AI Workflow Guides** — Step-by-step guides for using AI on email, marketing, admin, invoices and grant applications without exposing private data. (Coming soon.)

## The Townstead AI Standard

We are developing a practical framework for small organisations covering: data protection, human oversight, AI tool selection, staff training, workflow controls and accountability. Organisations that meet the standard can demonstrate that responsible AI is how they operate, not just something they talk about.
